Tourism in Alwar

Alwar is a city of historical significance in Rajasthan. It lies between the small hills located in the Aravali ranges and is situated on the north-eastern part of Rajasthan which is located at about 160 km south of Delhi, and 150 km north of Jaipur.

Alwar was discovered in the second half of the 18th century by Pratap Singh, a Rajput of the Kachwaha lineage. You can travel to Alwar easily from anywhere in Rajasthan and also nearby places like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The place has many interesting tourist attractions and various kinds of architectural instances which attract tourists from various corners of the globe. Many battles have been fought in Alwar in the past time.

The airport at Jaipur is closest to Alwar. The place has its own railway station and is also easily accessible by roads.

Bala Fort

The place is famous for the Bala Fort which is also known as Alwar Fort. The walls of this fort stretch as far away as 5 kilometers long. This fort have been built for serving as an unfailing protector from outsiders, this fort is 304 meters high and huge gates add to the grand status of the structure.

City Palace

Another famous tourist attraction is the City Palace or Vinay Vilas Mahal. The Palace was built in the 18th century and it is grand structure that shows architecture art of Mughals. The upper chambers of the Palace have been replaced into a museum, while the ground floor has converted to government offices. Another famous museum is the Government Museum, which has a large and unique collection of Mughal paintings and artifacts.

Sariska National Park

The most famous place near Alwar is the Sariska National Park set up in 1955. Alwar is said to be the Gateway of Sariska national Park sprawled over an area of 800kms. Tourists often visit this national Park, as it is quite famous all over the world for having a good population of wild tigers and cheetals, sanbhars, nilgais. The Park is a part of Project Tiger campaign and is famous for its 'friendly tigers'.

Sagar

sagar is the artificial lake behind the City Palace which was constructed in 1815 A.D by Maharaja Vinay Singh the has a few temples along its banks. A wonderful chhatri with strange Bengali roof and vaults is situated within this lake.
