Tourism in Chail

The land between lush green mountain ranges of Himachal Pradesh known as Chail located at the height of 7,054 feet above sea level. This lovely destination is worth visiting. The place is Basically known for the highest ground for cricket and polo not just in India, but the entire world. This was the summer capital of Patiala, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala made this place his summer capital. He built this city in his own way and guidance, his natural surroundings only added more beauty to it. Tourism in Chail has been increasing rapidly due to clean environment, peaceful place and natural beauty. It is spread over an area of 72 acres on three hills, the Rajgarh Hill, Pandava Hills and Siddh Tibba. Its distance from Shimla is 45 Km. Do not miss when you make trip to Himachal Pradesh.

How to Reach

The nearer airport at Jubbarhatti at a Distance of 40 km. The nearer railway station is Kalka at a distance of 137 km and this places is also easily accessible by roads.

Places to visit in Chail

Sidh Baba Ka Mandir

Bhupinder Singh's palace was originally planned for this place, however a vision of the maharaja changed everything when he saw a sidh saint who told him that the place was meant for his meditation. That's made Bhupinder Singh shifted the site of his palace to other place and on that first place he made a spot for a temple of Sidh Baba.

Chail Sanctuary

The Chail sanctuary was inaugurated on 21st March 1976. It sprawls over about 11,000 hectares of land and is a pride of the hill station. It houses thick forests of deodar and oak trees, grasslands and a variety of wildlife, especially deer, Himalayan black bear and many colorful birds. The best way to explore this sanctuary is by going on a trek inside. The rugged terrain does not allow any vehicle to tread and tourists are encouraged to take a walk in the wild side of Chail.

Cricket Ground

The world's highest cricket and polo ground is situated in Chail. Chail Cricket Ground is located at a height of 2144 meters above the sea level. It is surrounded by deodar thick forests and was built during 1893.

Chail Palace

Located at a height of 2250 meters above the sea level, Chail is very small hill station but has delightful hill resort. One of its major attractions is the Chail Palace, constructed by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala in 1891.

Chail Wildlife Sanctuary

The Chail surrounding is covered with Deodar and Oak thick forests which was declared a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1976. Here you find many animals like Sambar, Goral, Himalayan Black Bear, Red Deer, Barking Deer and Leopard. When you travel from Chail to either Gaura or Jhajja and can expect to see a number of animals on a way.

Kali Devi Temple

Kali Devi Temple dedicated to Kali Devi is located on top of a hill named after the Rajmata's cottage. Most of the tourist coming to Chail never forget to visit this temple. The can view the Shivalik Range and the Choor Chandni peak from this temple. you can find some rare species of animals and birds on the spot.

The Gurudwara Sahib

The Gurudwara Sahib in Chail situated in 1907 on the top of Pandhawa hill and it is supposed to be one of the important religious destination in Chail. The main feature of this Gurudwara Sahib are the two towers at the entrance which like the churches of Goa. There is a beautiful lawn attached to the Gurudwara Sahib.
