Tourism in Chamba

Chamba tourism in Himachal Pradesh of India. It is a small town located at height of 926 meters above the sea level and spreads in the area of 24 km. It is believed that Chamba was named after the daughter of King Sahil Verman named Champavati, who is considered to be a deity of this place. Chamba is the perfect place for those who want to healthy air and enjoy a beauty of hills. Chamba is located at the Shivalik hills in the north western part of Himachal Pradesh. The town situated on the bank of River Ravi, in a valley between two mountain ridges. The nearer airport at Gaggal. The nearer railway station is Pathankot at a distance of 127 km and this places is also easily accessible by roads.

Places to visit in Chamba

Kailash Manimahesh

Located at the height of 4,170 meters above the sea level at distance of 29 km from the town. When fair held here then bus service is available up to Hadsar. There is a lake which is blessed by goddess Kali and protected by Lord Shiva. Thousands of pilgrims and tourist visit here to bathe in its sacred water, on the festival of Janamashtami. A fair is held every year at this lake in the month August or September. This is the most important place to visit in Chamba.

Katasan Devi Temple

This famous temple is situated near Baira Siul Project, at a distance of 30 km from main Chamba valley. The main reasons for the popularity of the temple is its calm, peaceful and beautiful views of the valley.

Chowgan

Here you find a sprawling grassland in the heart of the city. Chowgan is the hub of local trade. It is also the starting point of the Minjar Fair. Celebrations of the annual fair take place here only. Many cultural events, shows, programs and sport activities are held here. Many tourist visit here to this fair and there traditional.

Chamunda Devi Temple

This temple of Chamunda Mata is dedicated to Goddess Chamunda, one of the avatar of Goddess Durga. Just behind the main temple, is a small shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. Chamunda Devi Temple situated on a hilltop from where a panoramic views of the entire Chamba and the River Ravi.

Chamba Church

Situated in the main Chamba market. This Church was set up by Raja Sham Singh and offered to the church of Scotland for the use of the christian community in Chamba. It is very beautiful church in Chamba laid on 17th February, 1899 A.D. and its work was finished in 1905 A.D.

Bhuri Singh Museum

Bhuri Singh Museumis one of the oldest museums in Himachal Pradesh. It was set up in September in year 1908 by the Raja Bhuri Singh under the guidance of Indian Art Professor John Philip Vogel. The museum has been named after the king only. This museum has finest collection of Pahari miniature paiting chieflu Chamba and guler Kangra styles. The museum has a large collection of epigraphs, copper plates, historical documents, manuscripts, sculptures in stone, Chamba rumals, coins, murals and wood carvings. Opens daily from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. It is closed on Monday and gazetted/local holidays.

Lama Dal

This lake 'Lama Dal' means a long lake. It is in the inner slopes of Dhauladhar range. It is a group of seven lakes, the largest one in all Lama Dal. It is around 20 km from Dainkund (Dayankund).

Bharmaur

Located at the height of 2,195 meters above the sea level at distance of 65 km from the town. Bharmour is the capital of Chamba. It has several ancient temples and monuments which attract tourists. Some of the important temples are of - Manimahesh, Lakshna Devi, Ganesh and Nar Singh.

Chamba Library

Located inside the Government College of Chamba. You can find many author books who wrote on Himachal Pradesh, i.e. Himachal history, geography, states, books explaining ancient art and culture along with photographs of ancient coins, Armour etc. There is also an office situated near the library where you find various books on other topics here.
