Chittorgarh is located in the South Eastern part of the Indian and the state of Rajasthan. The administrative head quarters of Chittorgarh District in Rajasthan, is an old city covers a total area of about 10,856 square km which is about 3.17% of the total geographical area of the state. Western railways connect Chittorgarh with all major cities they are Ajmer, Delhi, Jaipur, Ratlam, Udaipur. However the convenient railhead is Udaipur. By roads it is well connected from Agra 557 kms, Ajmer 182 kms, Delhi 578 kms, Jaipur 320 kms, Jodhpur, Kota 000 kms, Mount Abu 390 kms and Udaipur 115 kms to Chittaurgarh.
The fort is the fisrt demand by the tourist to be visited at the first day of stay at Chittorgarh. The Chittorgarh Fort is regarded as one of the most wonderful forts in India and it is situated on a 180 m high hillock covering an area of about 700 acres and is believed to be built in the 7th Century. Chittorgarh Fort is a massive structure with a 1 kilometre zigzag accent to it. There are many gateways in the fort which includes Padal Pol, Bhairon Pol, Hanuman Pol and Ram Pol. The fort is also called the “Water Fort” and had 84 water bodies of which 22 still exist.
It was Built in 1440.AD. This 9 storey tower is a 15th Century tower built by by Maharana Kumbha to commemorate his victory over Muhammad Khilj. The tower is adorned beautifully with sculptures of Hindu deities. There are around 157 narrow steps leading to the terrace where the balconies give a beautiful top angle view of the whole town.When illuminated in the evening, the tower reflects a mesmerizing effect and the view is worth capturing in the camera.
This place of pilgrimage came into existence in the sway of Rana Kumbha in 1448 A.D. It is dedicated to poetess Meerabai whose divine love for Lord Krishna made her an eminent personality in Hindu Mythology. Meera, a sober disciple of Krishna had surrendered her entire life for him.
There are six Jain temples in the fort of Chittor. The largest among them is the temple dedicated to Bhagawan Adinatha with fifty-two devkulikas. The seven-storied Kirtistambh, built in the 14th Century is dedicated Bhagawan Adinatha.
