Tourism in Jodhpur

Geographically, Jodhpur is situated near the center of state of Rajasthan. It is the second largest city of Rajasthan and it is one of the most sought after tourism spots in India. Rao Jodha, chief of the Rajput founded this place in the year 1459 and in the Rajputana days, it was the capital of the Marwar state of Rajasthan.

The city of Jodhpur was built within the confines of stonewall, around 10 kilometers long. There are eight doors that open to eight directions which have different ways and lead to the different palaces of Jodhpur. Nagori gate, Sajoti gate, Merti gate, Jalori gate, Siwanchi gate are the names of some of the gates of the Kingdom. Just after enter on the walls one can find guard's chambers which are armed with iron spikes on top. All the 100 towers of Jodhpur are surrounded by defensive battlements. The palaces, forts, towers and walls are the major tourist attractions of the city. The city of Jodhpur is famous for its fabulous forts and palaces that should not be missed visiting at any cost. It is also known as the "Sun City".

Jodhpur city makes it easy for the tourists to reach the destination with ease from any anywhere in Rajasthan and also from places around Rajasthan. Tourist attraction in Jodhpur

Mehrangarh Fort

It is one of the largest forts of India.

It is a fantabulous landmark of Jodhpur. The Mehrangarh Fort have seven gates in the fort which one need to cross to step inside the fort like Jayapol, Fatehpol, and Lohapol. This is an imposing structure with massive walls situated at a staggering height of around 125 meters on a high undulating hill; Mehrangarh Fort in Rajasthan is truly an architectural wonder.

Rohetgarh Fort

One of the prime tourist attractions of Jodhpur in Rajasthan. Anyone visiting India should not miss this great fort that is now converted to Rohetgarh heritage hotel. The Rohetgarh Fort was built in the 16th century by Thakur Dalpat Singh of the Rathore clan.

Umaid Bhavan

The usage of marble and pink sandstone in the construction of this marvelous has given a gorgeous look and is one of the last palaces to be built in India. It is Located on the Chhittar Hill in Jodhpur. The grand Umaid Bhawan Palace in Rajasthan took almost 16 years to be constructed.

Girdikot and Sardar Market

It is an impossible to travel Jodhpur without shopping from this famous market. The miniature shops offering a wide range of handicrafts, Jodhpuri clothes and other antique stuff are worth purchasing.

Government Museum

This museum in under maintainance of Government and has a rich collection of weapons, textiles, miniature portraits, local crafts and images of Jain Tirthankars. It is situated in the middle of the Umaid public gardens.
