Tourism in Manali

Manali is situated in the central parts of the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, Manali Tourism is at the head of the Kullu valley, 280 km north of the state capital Shimla and 108 km from Mandi. Manali is perched at an altitude of 2050 meters above sea level and is spread along the banks of the river Beas. In winters, the temperature can drop below freezing point when heavy woolens are required. Summer temperatures are mild and light woolens/cottons are recommended only in the morning and night.

This monastery was constructed in 1969. Then in a garden blooming with sunflowers is the Himalayan Nyingamapa Gompa. The visit to this gompa will mesmerize you with the dozens of electric bulbs, fragrant of Tibetan incense, a colossal gold-faced Buddha at the main shrine.

The airport at Bhuntar at a distance of 52 km. The nearer railway station is Jogindernagar at a distance of 135 km and this places is also easily accessible by roads.

Places to visit in Manali

Hadimba Temple

Manali has many attractions but the chief centre of interest is undoubtedly the DHOONGRI TEMPLE dedicated to goddess Hadimba or Hadimba Devi. It has four-tiered Pagoda shaped roof and the doorway is carved with legendary figures and symbols. Hadimba Devi Temple in Manali is located amidst wooden forest of deodar is about 2.5 kms. from the Manali Tourist Office. It is a pleasant experience to walk in the Hadimba Devi Temple complex which was built in 1533 A.D. A large festival is held here in May every year.

Manu Temple

It is 3 kms. from the Main Bazar in Old Manali, lies the Temple of MANU RISHI. It is believed that this is the only temple of Manu Rishi in India, and Manu Rishi was the creator of human race on the earth.

Tibetan Monasteries

There are three newly constructed Monasteries in Manali. The Tibetans living around these Monasteries in Manali offer a vide range of Tibetan Handicrafts, Carpets and woolen clothes to the visitors to buy. Two of these Monasteries are located in the main down-town of Manali and one Monastery in Aleo. Aleo is located on the Left Bank of River Beas in Manali.

Rehala Falls

Located at a distance of 16 km from Manali on way to Rohtang pass. The sight of the falls is fascinating on a result of spilling water from steep rocks and melting glaciers. The entire area is also covered by the forest of deodar trees which shows an excellent view of the nature around.

Kothi

A beautiful and quiet spot around 12 km away from Manali and is situated on the Lahaul-Spiti-Leh highway. The PWD rest house here overlooks Manali valley and views of surrounding mountains. Below Kothi, more than a km there has a thrilling view, the river Beas flows through a deep gorge, 32 meters or more in depth. Solang Valley

A glorious valley located 13 km from Manali town. It offers views of the glaciers and snow covered mountain peaks between Manali and Kothi. Many tourist who are really interested in skiing and tracking visit especially during the winter skiing festival. The valley offers excellent landscape to skiers. Some institutes even offer courses to learn skiing here. A view of the snow caped mountains, from this valley, is simply breathtaking.

Rohtang Pass

Situated 51 km distance from Manali at an altitude of 3,978 meters on the Manali -Keylong road. The gateway to Lahaul Spiti, Pangi and Leh valley. Tourist who visit Manali they must visit Rotang Pass only during the summer months as the rest of the year the traffic flow is interrupted due to the heavy snowfall. Vashisht

Situated 3 km from the mall. This place is famous for its hot water springs which has its medicinal power. The temples of Vashisht which is dedicated to Vashishta Muni and Lord Rama. It is located on the bank of Beas, but well above the river. A large number of devote throng here for a bath as the water of the spring is believed to cure several diseases. there are two separate bathing tanks for gents and ladies are always full of devote.

Nehru Kund

Located at a distance of 6 km from Manali town. Nehru Kund is a calm and peaceful place to visit. The name to this place is given after the first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. This place is especially famous for natural spring of clean cold water, which is believed to flow from the Bhrigu Lake.

Arjun Gufa

Located at a distance of 15 km from the main Manali town area, Arjun Gufa is another famous place to visit in Manali. The legendary cave located near the Prini Village on the left bank. According to a legend, Arjuna, one of the Pandavas, used to practiced austerities to get the powerful 'Pashupati astra' - weapon.

Manikaran

Located at a distance of 86 km from Manali, Manikaran is a famous Gurudwara of Sikh's first Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji where he blessed people with hot springs to make langar (food). Thousands of people take a dip in its hot waters. The name of the place is derived from the words, 'mani' (meaning jewel) and 'karan' (meaning ears). According to a legend, Manikaran is also associated with Lord Shiva and Parvati decided to stay here, who lost and recovered her ear-ring here. Know there is temple of Lord Shiva and Parvati just nearer to Gurudwara.

Bhuntar

Located at a distance of 52 km from Manali town, Bhuntar is a picturesque town. Bhuntar houses the nearest airport to Manali.

Kullu
