Tourism in Mussoorie

The hill station Mussoorie is often known as the "Queen of the Hills" is located in the Garhwal hills near Dehradun . Mussoorie gets its name from the Mansur shrub that is commonly seen in the hill resort. Mussoorie, located some 250 miles north of Delhi, capital of India, is among the most popular hill stations of India. Mussoorie, a hill resort at a height of around 7000 ft above the sea level that's why a region is developing into a major tourism destination. The holy and mighty river Ganga is visible from one end of the ridge and another famous river Jamuna from the other.

Many visitor visit here to enjoy there summer holidays and some them visit here to enjoy the mountain ranges. Here you get local four and to wheeler to enjoy the beauty of this hill station. The Mall Road connects Kulri & Library Bazars. Buses from Dehradun go to the Library or Picture Palace (Kuril bazar) bus stands. The town is accessible all year round. For those who wish to avoid the cold, the best season is between April and June and again between September and November. Summer months will require light woollen clothing and winter- heavy woollen. It has snow in winter and so quite peaceful at that time.

Places to visit in Mussoorie

Kempty Falls

Buses or taxis can be taken to the waterfall, 15km on the Chakrata road, from Mussoorie is Kempty Falls. At an altitude of 4300 ft the largest and prettiest waterfall in the valley and is surrounded by high mountains. Children as well as adults enjoy bathing at the foot of the falls. It is also a very popular picnic spot.

Gun Hill

Gun Hill is the second highest peak of Mussoorie.

It is a pleasant 20-minute walk by a bridle path that forks of from Mall Road near Kutchery or there is a 400m ropeway ride to it. Gun hill offers a beautiful experience view of snow capped peaks the Himalayan ranges namely Bunderpunch, Shrikanta, Pithwara and Gangotri group and it also offers a birds' eye view of Mussoorie town & Doon Valley. Prior to Indian independence (1947), a gun mounted on this hill used to be fired at mid-day to enable the people to adjust their watches; hence its name.

Camels Back Road

The lovely promenade starts from Kulri and ends at the library covering a total distance of about 3 km. This road is popular for walking or riding and is a grand spot to view the sunset.

Nag Devta Temple

An ancient temple situated around 6 kms far from Mussoorie. It provides a charming view of Doon Valley and Mussoorie from nag devta temple.

Mussoorie Lake

This pleasant lake is about 6 km from Mussoorie this is a newly developed picnic spot on Dehradun to Mussoorie road. It is a very delightful spot. Paddle boats are available here to enjoy the boating. It shows an interesting view of Doon Valley & the nearby villages.
