West Bengal state is very popular for tourist destination for its cultural and natural beauty. Kolkata known as city of joy is the capital of West Bengal. Calcutta was the first headquarters of the East India Company, and some of its best known monuments were built by this British trading house. In the area of West Bengal which is ranks as one of the smaller states of India, it is one of the largest in population. India's second largest city; other important cities and towns are Asansol, Durgapur and Siliguri, Darjeeling, Kharagpur and Haldia.

West Bengal, situated in the eastern part of the Indian peninsula, is one of the country's medium-sized states. It is situated in east India, with Bangladesh abutting most of its eastern border. The states of Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar lie on its west and its northern parts touch Assam and Sikkim, as well as the international borders of Bhutan and Nepal. Darjeeling, its northern end, lies cuddled in the arms of the mighty Himalayas and the Dooars in the foothills are rich in forest.

The indomitable river Ganga flows across the state's rich alluvial plains to reach the Bay of Bengal in the south, through last swamps that are known as the Sundarbans. Kaali temple is very famous in West Bengal. Kaali is regarded as one of the principal deities of Bengal. Durga puja is very famous festival for Bengalis. In this puja they pray to the kaali whose another name is Durga. They celebrate not in whole West Bengal but in every where in India where they reside.

West Bengal has a single-chamber legislative assembly with 295 seats. The state sends 58 members to the Indian national parliament: 16 to the Rajya Sabha (Upper House) and 42 to the Lok Sabha (Lower House). Local government is based on 18 administrative districts.
